Working with Parents Aims

Research shows that a positive parenting style has a strong positive impact on children. As stated in the 'Every Child Matters' strategy:

'Parents and the home environment they create are the single most important factor in shaping children's well-being, achievements and prospects'

It is of paramount importance that practitioners work in partnership with Parents, seeing them as part of the solution not part of the problem. This encourages and enables Parents to be actively involved in finding answers to their difficulties. Practitioners need to be able to:

  • Identify and develop Parents' existing skills
  • Support and encourage Parents to put the skills they have developed into practice
