Safeguarding Children Aims

The Government Green Paper 'Every Child Matters' defines the national vision for all children and young people. There are five key outcomes from this vision:

  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Make a Positive Contribution
  • Achieve Economic Wellbeing

This e-learning course focuses on 'Staying Safe' as a key element of this vision which staff from all agencies should strive to achieve for children and young people.

Safeguarding Children Objectives

Most adults with a mental illness, physical impairment, learning disability or other special needs are able to live safely and securely. For a small number, however, dependence on someone else may lead to exploitation and abuse.

This guide aims to help you understand what abuse is, how to recognise it, and what to do if you suspect that an adult needs protection from abuse.

Everyone should be committed to a policy of Zero Tolerance towards the abuse of vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding Children E-Learning Course Content

  • Types of abuse
  • How to recognise abuse
  • What to do if you suspect abuse
  • The inter-agency approach

Safeguarding Children recognises that the protection of children and young people from abuse is the responsibility of all sections of society. However, those organisations and individuals that provide services for vulnerable children, or are in regular contact with them, have a particular responsibility to be aware that abuse can occur.
