What are Learning Styles?
Learning styles are just different ways of learning and absorbing information. Lesson content that appeals to different types of learner will improve the retention of information – the amount of knowledge gained.
Studies have shown that e-learning can improve retention by 25 to 60 percent over traditional instructor-led learning.
There are three different learning styles; visual, auditory and tactile.

Visual Learners
Visual learners learn by seeing. In a classroom situation they may prefer sitting near the front of the room to avoid visual obstructions. (Not because they’re teacher’s pets!). They learn best from visual displays and may take detailed notes to help them absorb information.
E-learning appeals to visual learners with its ability to include graphics, animations and video content.
Auditory Learners
Auditory Learners learn through listening. Written information will mean more after it has been heard and these learners often benefit from reading text aloud to themselves. (Talking to yourself is OK!).
E-learning helps engage auditory learners by including audio content to provide stimulation, audible cues, or narrating some or all of the instruction.
Tactile Learners
Tactile, or kinesthetic, learners benefit from a hands-on approach to learning. They need to explore to their surroundings and may become bored with inactivity. (Can’t sit still!).
E-learning can include interactive tests, simulations and scenarios to respond to the needs of tactile learners.
So as well as helping you to learn you also now know why you kept getting into trouble at school!
Properly designed e-learning is obviously much more than taking words and pictures and putting them on a computer screen – although early e-learning content suffered a lot from this approach! It has the capacity to appeal to all styles of learning through the inclusion of:

E-learning has other advantages to the learner. You can access e-learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at the office, at home, or on the road and at your own pace.
