The Story So Far.....

Mike Smith is the Director of Communications for an organisation of 1000 people in the Government Sector.

Mike comes from the private sector, having successfully headed up a Communications Division for a foods retail company.

Mike has the public sector at heart and believes he can add value to the way the Government department in which he works communicates with its target audiences.

Mike reports to the CEO of the Organisation, Sir Mark Appleton. He has been in his job for 9 months and has just had his first real review with Sir Mark.

Mike was both pleased and disappointed with the outcome of the review. Sir Mark had given Mike specific and positive feedback about the technical nature of his job - how he had helped re-brand the business, developed new communications paths to clients within the UK and built up their in-house expertise in terms of both people and technology.

However, Sir Mark had also gone over the 360 ° appraisal feedback report Mike had received. This indicated several leadership and management issues that Mike needed to address.
