Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) are a supplement to the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and focus on adults who do not have the capacity to decide whether to be in Hospital or Care Homes for their treatment or care.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Aims
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards will especially apply to adults with Dementia, people with severe Learning Disabilities and some people with brain injuries or neurological illnesses.
The main aims of DoLS are:
- To supplement the MCA (2005) to protect adults who lack the capacity to make decisions about their lives
- To focus additional scrutiny on the care arrangements for those vulnerable adults who may be deprived of their Liberty
- To ensure that any Deprivation of Liberty, where it is required, has a lawful basis
